An official’s plea to revisit the sports complex project capped yesterday’s meeting of the Ocean City Council.
At the end of Monday’s regular meeting, Councilman John Gehrig implored other members of council to take proactive steps in bringing an indoor-outdoor sports complex to Worcester County.
While the project has stalled since the council decided last month not to proceed with the purchase of a 193-acre property roughly 9 miles from the municipal limits, he asked that the topic be revisited following the city’s election in November.
“The one thing at the top of our strategic plan was this, and we are made for this,” he told council members this week. “We are built for one thing. And we get a couple of questions and we shut it down. It’s embarrassing.”
John Gehrig …. Tourist come to Ocean City for the board walk and shops, sandy beach, and the bars and night life. That’s all. They don’t come to Ocean City to play sports.
