The Baltimore Sun

Two Eastern Shore lawmakers are calling for stronger safeguards at Maryland nursing homes after months of complaints from Wicomico Nursing Home prompted the county council to establish new oversight of the county-owned facility. Workers and relatives of residents alleged that experienced staff were dismissed or pushed out, staffing levels dropped, and residents faced longer waits for meals and care following administrator Tina Foskey’s arrival in April.

Democratic Del. Sheree Sample-Hughes, whose mother lives at the home, sponsored legislation requiring state health officials to notify local health departments within 24 hours of opening nursing home investigations involving alleged harm or immediate danger to residents. A new state task force will examine staffing recruitment, retention and training issues, with its first meeting scheduled for Wednesday.

  1. Why is it that most of the employees aren’t speaking English in there? It seems that most of the workers have been replacedd with illegals! Investigate!
