Ford is recalling more than 223,000 pickup trucks in the US over a potentially dangerous fuel tank defect that could cause the tanks to leak or detach while drivers are on the road.
The recall affects 223,472 Ford F-150 trucks from the 2023 through 2027 model years, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
A detached fuel tank could create a road hazard and increase the risk of a crash, while leaking fuel could cause the engine to stall or increase the risk of a fire.
The latest recall is separate from a much larger campaign announced in April, when Ford recalled nearly 1.4 million older F-150s from the 2015 through 2017 model years over a defect that could cause unexpected downshifts and increase the risk of a crash.
Both safety campaigns are yet another headache for the Detroit automaker, which has faced a string of recalls as it attempts to improve vehicle quality.
The newly reported F-150 issue stems from the front fuel tank straps, which may not have been assembled correctly during manufacturing.
In some cases, the T-slots on the straps were not positioned properly in the vehicle’s frame rail, meaning the fuel tank may not be adequately secured.
If the tank shifts or detaches, it could spill fuel onto the road or cause the vehicle to lose power.
Our company uses these trucks. I cannot tell you how many re-call notices I have gotten (at least 1 every few months) I have one recall that has been an issue for over a year now and keep getting notices saying they are “working on the problem”
