(SALISBURY, MD) – Maryland State Police arrested a Salisbury man in connection with a fatal shooting in Wicomico County Thursday evening.
The accused is identified as Gage Mitchell, 29, of Salisbury, Maryland. Following consultation with the Office of the State’s Attorney in Wicomico County, he is charged with first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, and other firearm-related charges. He is at the Wicomico County Detention Center, where he is held without bond.
Shortly after 8 p.m. yesterday, troopers from the Maryland State Police Salisbury Barrack responded to a residence on the 400-block of Ethels Way for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival on the scene, troopers located a female victim, later identified as Jordan Holt, 29, of Salisbury, with an apparent gunshot wound. The preliminary investigation indicates that Holt and Mitchell were involved in a verbal altercation at the residence when Mitchell shot Holt. Mitchell then fled the residence. Troopers located Mitchell shortly thereafter, and he was arrested without incident. Holt was pronounced deceased on the scene by emergency medical services personnel.
Crime Scene Technicians from the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division responded to the scene to process evidence and a firearm was subsequently recovered.
Additional assistance was provided by the Maryland State Police Aviation Command and Criminal Enforcement Division, as well as officers and deputies from the Fruitland Police Department, Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office, and Salisbury Police Department.
The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit continues to lead the active and ongoing investigation.
