Hello Leaders of Maryland:
We respectfully write to you today in opposition of MD 2026 SB 0245 Public Safety – Immigration Enforcement Agreements – Prohibition.
We know the legislation has passed both chambers, has seen “designated” “emergency legislation” and is on its way to the Governors desk.
This legislation is “pure politics” nothing more, it’s been “noted” this bill will not stop ICE from operating in Maryland if this bill is signed.
Banning 287g agreements in the State, essentially makes it harder for the Maryland State Police, Local County and City police departments to “coordinate” with ICE should someone who has been arrested, turns out not to be in this Country legally.
This legislation seems to be a “knee jerk” reaction to the recent events in Minnesota with the “National Headlines” of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, both there is “evidence” were trained to “actively” interfere in law enforcement operations..
From that this so called “chaos” has erupted from this, is leading to this fear that “ICE is everywhere” and “there going to get you”. Well it seems in the cases of Good and Pretti they “went towards ICE” to “interfere” not that ICE came to them…
Now there are recent stories in Sates like West Virginia and Florida where ICE is getting “cooperation and coordination” from State and Local law enforcement, and those operations have gone “much smoother”. Compared what was happening in Minnesota due to ‘trained agitators” and State and Local leaders not wanting to ” Coordinate/ Cooperate” With ICE…
Leaders like Tom Homan, and in Maryland Frederick County Sheriff Chuck Jenkins, who has the longest 287G agreement in the State, that 287G agreements prevent raids, and make things smoother, when “transfers” happen in the jail, as opposed to out in the community…
We know Maryland has a long history of being “Pro Illegal Immigration” dates back to former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley famously coined the phrase “new americans” for immigrants who were “undocumented” in October of 2010, and that Maryland leaders long history of working with CASA on “legislation and advocacy” to help undocumented immigrants who are currently in Maryland..
These policies have definitely “increased crime” in the State, you all should ask yourself this question? Why are Top MS 13 operatives living in Maryland? Could it be because of these policies?… It’s like the quote from the movie field of dreams “if you build it, they will come” and they certainly have…
In closing we respectfully ask, Governor Moore to “veto” this legislation, the right answer on dealing with “illegal immigration” in the State is “Coordination and Cooperation” with federal law enforcement, the same way the Maryland State Police, County and City police departments do with the DOJ, FBI, ATF, and every other federal law enforcement agency that is not ICE…
