Route 50 bridge will close in January

Cars will be rerouted to Route 90, marine traffic also closed through March

Repairs will close the Route 50 bridge into Ocean City for several weeks and vehicular traffic will be detoured around Route 90 through Ocean Pines, according to the State Highway Administration.

Starting January 5, State Highway Administration (SHA) crews are scheduled to work on the Harry W. Kelley Memorial Bridge’s interlocking system that connects draw spans when they are closed.

The project will require the bridge to be closed to vehicular traffic. All motorists will be detoured to Route 90 for a period of 15 days, with work scheduled to end Jan. 20.

Work also will close the Sinepuxent Bay channel to all marine traffic for a period of about 75 days, through March 20.

  1. Bandaids only last short periods of time. Enough is enough. Stop patching this old bridge and replace with a new one. It’s past time to bite the bullet and do the proper thing.

      1. So where will you get all your necessities that come from most of the country west of the eastern shore 6:32? Start thinking a little bit. I bet you think our food comes from grocery stores too.

        1. Wrong 9:06. We had plenty of food and necessities here long before the bridge was even imagined let alone built. More bad than good comes from across that bridge. The western shore elite didn’t build it to help us. They built it to make it easier for them to get to the beach and to exploit us here. Make The Eastern Shore Great Again (MEGA)!
