During Thursday’s press conference Maryland leaders announced plans to ensure vaccines are available for everyone, especially minorities and the elderly. Officials announced what they call the first COVID-19 Vaccine Equity Operations Plan of any state, to ensure vaccines are distributed equally.
The COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately affected minority communities.
That’s why the state of Maryland says it’s working to ensure vaccines are accessible to everyone, but especially communities that were hard hit.
“When the vaccines first arrived, Maryland became one of the first states in America to publish racial data for COVID-19 vaccinations to ensure transparency in regard to vaccine equity,” said Maryland Governor Larry Hogan.
Hogan says the state plans to expand its Govax campaign in the coming weeks.
This includes a call center for English and Spanish speakers with no internet access, to call for vaccine appointments 7 days a week.
