Snow Hill woman sentenced to prison for animal cruelty

Worcester County detectives entered a Snow Hill home last summer looking for evidence of check fraud, but what they found was something much different: dozens of dogs and cats confined to crates, basements, sheds, and garages, some packed two or three to a crate and filthy with urine and feces.

“The smell alone was terrible. We had to keep stepping out of the house just to catch our breath,” said Capt. Katie Edgar of the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office, describing the June 10, 2025 discovery.

Edgar’s investigation into suspected animal cruelty at the home of Patricia Gadaleta, 67, converged with another theft investigation involving an elderly victim.

It ended as one of the larger animal cruelty cases handled by the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office, with 57 dogs and 9 cats seized from the property. Many of the dogs have since been rehomed, authorities said.

Gadaleta entered Alford pleas in February in two separate cases: one involving a misdemeanor theft scheme charge of $1,500 to under $25,000, and the other involving 20 counts of animal cruelty. An Alford plea allows a defendant to accept a conviction without admitting guilt.

  1. love maryland! I can be a shitty parent pump out dozens of juvenile delinquents, turn em loose on society and that’s ok. but dont you dare take in strays or try to feed them and care for them! I’m sure the are some kids in maryland living in the same type of squalor but no one from the state will dare mention that or do a damn thing about it!
