Cheap Bastards?

Let’s toot our own horn!  Has anyone else noticed that County Management love to shout out all of their accomplishments?  Like the Landfill cell 7 that still isn’t completed months after its original completion date?  I’m sure we can blame that on previous management (we’re talking about you, Heather Landford that area sat empty for years waiting to get started).  But as this post appears, it is still not completed.  And let’s check out the public works page, shall we?  Lots of patting themselves on the back.  All the wonderful things they have done.  But really are all these things happening regardless of whether or not they appear online?  For years, the public works department worked pretty consistently, silently, toiling along taking care of the public’s needs.  Now, it all has to be documented as a win.  Especially during an election year.

Events, tours, all of those things happened for years.  But once Adam came on board all of a sudden, my wife had to beg for compensation and supplies and eventually just stopped asking.  When you have to get approval from your boss and your boss is a major a**hole, what do you do?  How do you go above his head when Julie is the next step?  When they needed to collect litter that Wicomico Clean had gathered, they had to wait to make sure the van and trailer weren’t being used on the hill for litter control instead of getting the trash.  Our needs were always second.  No was the answer or just silence or you can get it tomorrow.  And try to get supplies for events, forget it.  While the council stated that the county has plenty of money, where was it when my wife needed supplies for events.  She and a coworker were making handouts for events at home using their own supplies and time.  My wife would get tired of constantly asking for money for supplies and when avoidance was the answer, she did what all the public-school teachers do and bought what she needed herself.  Luckily my wife is pretty conservative with money and didn’t have a problem being conservative with the county’s money.  Adam Corry has the opposite approach so expect the county to continue to spend big bucks on projects.  After all he is a former state employee, and they had funding the county could only dream of. The landfill took two positions and combined them to overpay for a tech position that was fresh out of college.  Meanwhile your bulldozer operator who has worked there for over 30 years makes a fraction of that salary, and he can make the hill like glass.  I suppose a piece of paper is much more fiscally important than actual skill and perfection.  Like the NAACP have said consistently at council meetings, the new hires are being brought on at inflated salaries which is insulting to every tenured employee.  But I guess the administration may find that out if they have to look elsewhere for employment.

While we are talking about fiscal responsibility, how about Barron Creek Road.  $1-4 million to replace it?  And that is a win for the county?  Well according to James Winn it is because he singlehandedly pulled it off.  Unfortunately, no one seems to know where the funds are coming from.  Maybe Adam can contact some of his state buddies for some $.  I mean after all, people are so desperate for money they are selling their used socks and underwear online, but let’s spend this money on a super worthy cause that will benefit everyone for years to come.  Makes perfect sense for the current administration.
