California Gov. Gavin Newsom shared a housing-affordability graph on X to attack President Trump, but users quickly pointed out the chart’s steepest climb happened under Joe Biden’s watch.
Newsom posted on Tuesday with a sarcastic jab, “Great work, @realDonaldTrump!”, alongside a graph tracking the income needed to qualify for a median-priced home from 2005 to 2026. The post framed the data as an indictment of the current president. Within hours, the graph became an indictment of Newsom’s own argument, as Fox News Digital reported.
The problem was straightforward: the graph showed a substantial increase in the income required to buy a home between 2021 and 2024, the Biden administration. The sharpest spike on Newsom’s own chart landed squarely on the years his party controlled the White House. While the line did reach its highest recorded level during Trump’s second term, the acceleration that got it there began years before Trump returned to office.
X users noticed immediately and were not gentle about it.
