After a successful first run, OC Rock and Ride organizers say they hope to make this year’s motorcycle rally bigger and better.
Promoters Matt and Tyler Odachowski – the father-son duo leading the effort to maintain and revitalize what was once a huge rally – have been hard at on the second iteration of OC Rock and Ride, a five-day gathering of motorcycle enthusiasts.
Alongside their team at Kickin Events, the Odachowskis say they are hoping to turn this year’s event into one that stays for years to come.
“We’re really excited,” Matt Odachowski told the OC Today-Dispatch this week. “This is our second year, and we learned a lot from last year on what to do and what not to do.”
Last year, the Ocean City Council agreed to allow Kickin Events to produce the 2025 motorcycle rally after former OC Bikefest promoter, OC Jams, failed to pay rent and lease fees as outlined in its contract with the city. Less than four months later, an estimated 200,000 motorcycles rolled into Ocean City for the inaugural OC Rock and Ride.
By and large, city officials deemed the event a success. And this past winter, the City Council inked a new, three-year contract with Kickin Events, one that provides some concessions and fee waivers to keep OC Rock and Ride going.
“This is a $50 million impact to our community. And when you get down to it, it affects all of us that work and live on Delmarva,” Odachowski said of the rally’s impact. “Whether you are a waitress, or a business owner, or a bartender, these are people coming to our area, looking to have a good time, and potentially move to the area … It is a big marketing event for our entire area and it is heavily relied upon by businesses.”
Not my thing, personally, but besides being loud and a bit over the top on their early Halloween event, it does bring in money and from what I’ve seen over the years, the participants are mostly well behaved. Sure, there’s the local joker in the mix causing issues, but that’s rare. The hot rod crowd is similar and both are far superior to the modified car crowd that plagued the area until the most recent years. That said, I looked at the band lineup and can honestly say I’ve never heard of one of them. Maybe I’ve been living under my rocking chair for too long! 🤣
