Hardwire secures new Army contract

Company to produce steel, titanium components for military’s armored vehicles

Pocomoke City defense contractor Hardwire LLC has been awarded an Army contract valued at $99 million to produce steel and titanium components for armored military vehicles over the next five years.

Hardwire founder and CEO George Tunis credited Pocomoke City, Worcester County, and Congressman Andy Harris (R-1st, Md.) as partners in expanding the company’s manufacturing capabilities on the Eastern Shore.

Hardwire built much of its armor business around lightweight composites made by compressing layers of high-strength synthetic fibers. The contract represents an expansion of the manufacturing work for which Hardwire is best known.

“This capability allows for huge, complex-shaped parts to be made from the strongest metals on planet Earth,” Tunis said in a statement, “and opens the door to all-new, more organically shaped components and armor for our ground, sea, air, and space forces.”
