CHICAGO (WGN) — Two people are dead after a shooting incident at an elementary school in Chicago’s Garfield Ridge neighborhood.
According to police, at around 3:40 p.m., the two adults were found unresponsive inside Mark Twain Elementary School, located at 5134 S Lotus Ave. Police said a 48-year-old victim suffered a single gunshot wound to her head and was transported to Christ Hospital in critical condition. A 63-year-old man also suffered a gunshot wound to his head and was transported to Christ Hospital in critical condition.

Both individuals were pronounced at the hospital, police added. Authorities recovered a weapon at the scene.
A man who lives near the elementary school, who wished to be identified solely as Kenny, said he was sitting outside when he heard gunshots.
“I heard pop, pop, pop, pop, and since it’s a school, it echoes,” the man said. “And then I saw the guy chasing the lady back into the school.”
