Opinion: Rep. Andy Harris is right that America faces a housing crisis, but he’s wrong to claim that federal funding can’t help the problem, writes Jake Day, Maryland’s housing secretary. https://bit.ly/4yv4piQ
Response:
The Former Mayor of Salisbury, MD now The States Housing Secretary Jake Day is calling out Congressman Harris over the issue of “Affordable Housing” in Maryland…
During the time Secretary Day was Mayor of Salisbury, he worked on development deals where the same parking lot was “given away twice” and the on the 2nd deal for a dollar to a developer. In 2022 the City of Salisbury voted to “unionize” a year later the City was forced to vote to increase property taxes pretty significantly on business and citizens, by 2026 the City of Salisbury facing financial pitfalls voted to absolve collective bargaining.
Since Secretary Day joined the Moore Administration in 2023, Him and Governor Moore have worked to “strip away” authority on planning, zoning, and permitting from Municipal and County Governments. Trying to create a more “Centralized Power Structure” in Annapolis to dictate their ” Affordable Housing” initiative around the State. That initiative calls to build “96 Thousand Units” around the State to tackle the States “Housing Crisis”…
The Moore Administration has given a large amount of power to Baltimore City Mayor Brandon Scott and his Administration to help make this happen…
Just like the City of Salisbury which Secretary Day helped run to the “poorhouse” he’s doing the same thing with the State of Maryland in his partnership with Governor Moore.
An Administration that has squandered $5 Billion Dollars in the States reserves to several Billions in the hole, and is responsible now for over $2 Billion Dollars of Tax and Fee Increases on Maryland’s Businesses and Working Families in 3 and half years…
Just in the last 2 months it was reported by the Maryland Association of Counties Executive Director Michael Sanderson that the State could be facing a $4 Billion Dollar deficit by January of 2027. The Response by Governor Moore & Secretary Day? Why they give away another $Billion dollars for “Affordable Housing” so they might want to make an adjustment to $5 Billion now by this coming January….
The Moore Administration since January of 2025, has been very “combative” towards the Trump Administration, and now it’s “rich” that Secretary Day is throwing a fit over federal dollars criticizing Congressman Harris to “Socially Engineer” Maryland in the name of “Affordable Housing” …
All of this should come as no surprise, to people who have followed the political career of Jake “the Snake” Day and the reputation he has “built” for himself….
