Rep. Jen Kiggans, R-Va., on Monday praised the Virginia Supreme Court’s decision striking down the state’s newly approved congressional maps, calling it “a victory for the rule of law” as Democrats weigh possible responses ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
The Virginia Supreme Court ruled 4-3 Friday that Democrat lawmakers violated constitutional procedures when they placed a redistricting amendment on the ballot earlier this year.
The referendum, narrowly approved by voters in April, would have allowed Democrats to redraw congressional boundaries ahead of the 2026 elections.
