Salisbury, MD (Wicomico County) — Wicomico County Executive Julie Giordano has formally submitted her proposed Fiscal Year 2027 budget to the County Council, outlining a comprehensive financial plan that prioritizes fiscal discipline, strategic investment, and continued support for core services.
“I am proud to present a balanced budget that reflects our commitment to responsible government while continuing to invest in the priorities that matter most to our residents,” said County Executive Giordano. “This budget was built with input from our community and reflects both the opportunities and challenges we are facing as a county.”
The proposed FY2027 budget totals $237.5 million, driven by continued economic growth and strategic use of fund balance for one-time investments.
Key Highlights of the FY2027 Budget Tax Relief for Residents
« Proposed real property tax rate reduction to $0.7799 per $100 of assessed value, a decrease of $0.03. e Estimated savings of approximately $100 annually for a $300,000 home not subject to reassessment.
Corresponding reduction in personal property tax rate to $1.9497 per $100.
Record Investment in Public Safety. This budget includes a record investment in public safety, with a significant focus on supporting the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office.
Funding reflects the recently approved three-year Collective Bargaining Agreement, ensuring competitive compensation, improved recruitment and retention, and long-term stability within the Sheriff’s Office.
Additional investments support fire service operations, emergency response capabilities, corrections, and overall public safety infrastructure across the County
“Our residents deserve to feel safe in their communities, and that starts with investing in the men and women who serve and protect us every day,” said County Executive Giordano. “This agreement and this level of funding demonstrate our commitment to supporting law enforcement and strengthening public safety across Wicomico County.”
Investment in Education Fully funds Maintenance of Effort (MOE) and includes additional requested funding by the Board of Education. Total education funding increases to $58.2 million, including: Initial investment in school weapons detection systems.
Required contributions for teacher pensions and pre-K programs.
Support for Community Services
Increased funding for:
o Volunteer and municipal fire departments
o Public Library
Wor-Wic Community College
PAC-14
o Humane Society
o Salisbury-Wicomico Economic Development
Capital Investments in County Infrastructure
Over $25.5 million in Pay-Go capital funding supporting 33 projects.
Additional $11 million in new bond funding and $21 million in forward funding for
the Fruitland Primary School project.
Major projects include $7 million HVAC replacement at Fruitland Intermediate School
so how much more could the taxpayers have saved by not doing this above and beyond what wass mandated? includes additional requested funding by the Board of Education. no auditing that is meaningful in any way. All the audits only show the money was spent. time for a line item audit of what each expenditure was for and who authorized it! as for swed, please wtf has swed ever done to show it’s worth? lots of noise but little to no results! time for a change get rid of this rino and elect a real conservative!

Truly sad that we don’t have a conservative challenger for the County Executive position in the primary elections.
While we know we don’t want a Democrat, she is not helping as much as she could.
Maybe the County Council’s almost complete turnover will help though!
