Repair work along Ocean City’s Route 50 bridge continues this month, as crews from the State Highway Administration will keep single-lane closures in place.
Crews will be replacing old rivets with new bolts on the underside of the Harry W. Kelley Memorial Bridge, according to Shanteé Felix, an SHA spokeswoman. The work is expected to last through March 20, weather permitting.
SHA was forced to put a pause on the bridge rehabilitation project in 2020 as a result of financial impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Now, the continued rehabilitation project involves repairing structural steel beams, fixing machinery that operates the drawbridge and existing pile protection, as well as cleaning and painting of the structure, according to SHA.
Leaving town, the bridge is the starting line for the fastest half mile around.
Go ahead and try it. That bridge is highly patrolled by Maryland State Troopers as well as Ocean City’s finest. Ask me how I know? I have the receipts.
