Wicomico County Celebrates Federal Support and Strong Partnership with Maryland’s Congressional Delegation

Salisbury, MD — Wicomico County is proud to reaffirm its strong, cooperative relationship with the federal government, resulting in meaningful investments that support local waterways, infrastructure, and economic vitality.
Thanks to collaborative efforts with Maryland’s federal delegation, including U.S. Representative Andy Harris (MD-01), key federal funding has been secured through the Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies appropriations process to support waterway navigation, dredging, and environmental stewardship across the Eastern Shore region.
“Wicomico County greatly values our partnership with our federal representatives,” said County Executive Julie Giordano. “Congressman Harris has been instrumental in advocating for water infrastructure funding that benefits not just his district, but all of Maryland’s coastal and river communities. His leadership in securing funding for dredging and other critical projects demonstrates what can be accomplished when federal and local leaders work together.”
“I’m proud to have supported this legislation, which included funding for the Wicomico River Dredging Project. These projects improve navigation, protect local waterways, and support the commercial fishing, maritime, and small businesses that are central to Maryland’s working waterfront communities”, said Congressman Harris.
Representative Harris has successfully delivered significant federal resources for other local infrastructure priorities, including more than $4.7 million for dredging projects such as Slaughter Creek and millions more for water and dredging improvements across the Eastern Shore under the Energy & Water appropriations process.
This strong federal collaboration has allowed Wicomico County to advance essential priorities related to navigation safety, environmental conservation, and economic opportunity—benefiting residents, businesses, and visitors alike.
Wicomico County looks forward to continuing this productive partnership with Congressman Harris to deliver tangible results for the region.
