‘It scares me’: Marylanders protesting as data shows ICE arrests nearly tripled in 2025

A new batch of data shows ICE has increased enforcement action across Maryland.

The increased enforcement efforts and the fatal shooting of Renee Good have led to a wave of demonstrations across the country. Good was shot and killed by an immigration enforcement officer in Minneapolis last week.

“I was really upset,” said Kalina Hurd, who was protesting in Bel Air.

Most protesters were anti-ICE at at a gathering over the weekend.

“No one should be killed by our government,” Hurd said. “It scares me. It scares me for my future. It scares me for my future kids.”

There were also participants in support of the federal immigration action.

“I’m just supporting law enforcement, supporting the local community. I’m all for ICE. I want to get the illegals out of the country,” said Brad Hopkins, an ICE supporter.

ICE ramped up enforcement across Maryland last year with the number of arrests nearly tripling since 2024, according to the Online Deportation Data Project, a clearinghouse of data collected largely through FOIA requests. Data shows from January through October last year, ICE arrested more than 3,300 people in Maryland compared to just 1,165 in the same 10-month stretch in 2024 — an 184% increase.

  1. how many of these illegals and so called protestors are receiving state or federal benefits? maybe if they had to get up and go to work each day and figure out how the hell they were going to provide for thier families they wouldnt have time to engage in such idiocy! my tax dollars weren’t ment to be spent on illegals!
