The Soros family has directed over $71,000 to New York Attorney General Letitia James since 2019, campaign records show. This includes recent contributions as James continues high-profile actions against President Donald Trump.
George Soros personally donated $18,000 to James in July 2024, followed by $13,000 from his daughter-in-law Jennifer Soros in May. Earlier cycles saw additional family support totaling $40,000. These funds bolstered James’ campaigns, including her ongoing civil fraud case against Trump and his organization.
James secured a $454 million judgment against Trump in February 2024, later reduced on appeal. She campaigned in 2018 vowing to investigate Trump, stating she would join lawsuits against his administration.
Soros and his family have long backed prosecutors aligned with criminal justice reform. Open Society Foundations, funded by Soros, support reduced incarceration and alternatives to prosecution. Critics argue such funding influences prosecutorial priorities in major cases.
Similar patterns appear elsewhere. Soros-linked groups supported Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg through indirect channels during his 2021 campaign. Bragg later pursued criminal charges against Trump.
Conservative watchdogs track Soros contributions to dozens of district attorney races nationwide, estimating tens of millions spent over years. Many backed prosecutors oversee large jurisdictions and adopt policies reducing charges for certain offenses.
