Several far-left members of the Democratic Party prioritized celebrating blackness with their own Kwanzaa celebration over Christmas.
Democratic Reps. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Summer Lee of Pennsylvania, and Delia Ramirez of Illinois gathered in the halls of Congress for their own Kwanzaa celebration, dubbing it “Squanzaa.” Former Democratic Missouri Rep. Cori Bush also celebrated. All of them make up “The Squad,” a nickname for a far-left group of Democrats.

The holiday is observed during a week-long celebration beginning Dec. 26 and is intended to honor “African heritage and culture,” according to the National Museum of African American History & Culture (NMAAHC)
Ramirez is a lifelong United Methodist, Ocasio-Cortez is Catholic, Pressley was raised Baptist, and Omar and Tlaib are both Muslim, according to a Religion News Services report.
