Daily Caller News Foundation co-founder Tucker Carlson on Thursday dismissed claims of a growing civil war inside the right.
Turning Point USA launched its annual AmericaFest conference Thursday at the Phoenix Convention Center, with organizers casting the four-day event as a celebration of faith, freedom, and the legacy of founder Charlie Kirk. During remarks at the event, Carlson pushed back against claims of a growing “civil war” within the conservative movement, rejecting media narratives that portray the Trump coalition as fractured by ideological disputes.
“Whatever that is, the people who voted for Trump, the Trump coalition, and the supposed civil war going on within that group,” Carlson said. “I don’t think it’s real. I think it’s fake. I think it’s totally fake. I’ve had cause to think a lot about this, because I’ve been unwittingly involved in the proxy war.”
Carlson framed the debate as a misunderstanding of the dynamics surrounding President Donald Trump’s political movement.
“There are two things going on here, and I’m not guessing. One is jockeying for position post-Trump,” Carlson added. “So Trump created this amazing coalition, bringing in people who had never voted Republican before but were very enthusiastic about him. And that coalition took over the most powerful government in the history of the world. So there’s a lot at stake here.”
Disputes over foreign policy and leadership in the Republican Party reportedly showed a “deepening civil war inside the Republican Party” over who will lead the conservative movement after Trump and also over what “America First” should mean.
