South Carolina measles outbreak is ‘accelerating,’ driving hundreds into quarantine

A growing measles outbreak across the United States has prompted health officials to issue renewed warnings and implement quarantines in several states, signaling one of the most significant resurgences of the virus in decades.

Once considered eliminated in the U.S., measles has returned in force due to declining vaccination rates and concentrated pockets of unvaccinated communities that allow the virus to spread rapidly.

South Carolina has become one of the most impacted states, with multiple confirmed cases emerging in the Upstate region. Health authorities reported new infections in Spartanburg County, triggering large-scale quarantines that now affect more than 80 individuals.
