Governor Moore Signs Executive Order Calling for Special Session of the Maryland General Assembly

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Governor Wes Moore today signed an executive order calling for a special session of the Maryland General Assembly. The special session will be called to order on Tuesday, Dec. 16.

The Maryland House of Delegates called for a special session to elect a new House Speaker following Adrienne A. Jones’s announcement last week that she would step down following six historic years in service to the speakership. The General Assembly may also consider other business to be resolved prior to the beginning of the 2026 legislative session.

The 2026 Maryland General Assembly will convene on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026.
