President Trump lashed out on Truth Social Sunday, feeling deeply betrayed after granting a full pardon to Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar (TX-28) and his wife, only to see Cuellar announce he’s running back to the party that turned their back on him.
Trump accused Cuellar of showing a shocking “lack of loyalty” and suggested there would be “no more Mr. Nice Guy” when it comes to pardons for those who show no appreciation for his act of kindness.
Cuellar is a staunch Democrat whose lone beef with his party was the open border policies of former President Joe Biden. For that, Trump had alleged that the Biden Department of Justice went after him and his family. Hence, the pardon.
The couple was charged with bribery, conspiracy to commit bribery, money laundering, conspiracy to commit honest services wire fraud, and acting as an unregistered foreign agent in connection with allegedly accepting nearly $600,000 in bribes from an Azerbaijani energy company and a Mexican bank in exchange for political favors.
But within hours of the unexpected pardon of he and his wife, Cuellar happily announced he would run for reelection. In speaking to reporters after filing, Cuellar thanked the President but downplayed any sense of loyalty, saying “nothing has changed.”
President Trump thought something should have changed, given the near-life-altering experience he went through under Biden’s DOJ.
You can’t change the spots on a leopard, and you can’t fix stupid.
And you can’t trust a Democrat.
