The third Thursday of November is designated to celebrate the
annual Great American Smokeout, this year it falls on November 20, 2025. This yearly campaign challenges individuals to go 24 hours without smoking, with hopes that it can serve as the beginning of their smoking cessation journey. Even if someone is not completely ready to quit, many smokers use this
day as a trial run to practice for their intended quit attempt. It can be helpful in determining which phases of the cessation process will be easier for them and which will be more difficult. This allows for time to develop strategies to combat their cravings that they can put into practice when they make their quit attempt.
The Wicomico County Health Department celebrates the Great American Smokeout by distributing quit kits to many local healthcare facilities such as pharmacies, primary care, and specialty care practices. These kits can also be picked up at the Wicomico County Health Department’s Prevention and Health Communications Department, and are available in English and Spanish (801 N. Salisbury Blvd., Suite 201).
The Wicomico County Health Department offers free smoking cessation classes, cessation aids including patches, lozenges, and Varenicline, and support services in the form of both group and individual counseling sessions.
Approximately 480,000 people die every year from smoking-related diseases. It remains the most preventable cause of death worldwide. Additionally, the United States spends over $240 billion annually on health care costs treating smoking related diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and lung disease. The Great American Smokeout can be the first step to stop smoking and starting a healthier lifestyle.

Smoking is a habit that can be beat. Millions and millions of intelligent people are letting tobacco companies get richer and richer while slowly destroying their own health. C’mon people, think about what is actually happening. The truth is, you don’t need to inhale and exhale poison smoke full of toxic chemicals, it’s very bad for you. Also please think about what you will be putting your families through in the future. Tobacco companies are laughing at you all way to the bank. Please try to stop. It really isn’t cool.
But I’ve seen old advertisements saying that smoking cigarettes is good for your health. So which is correct? If the government says it’s bad then I’m pretty sure the opposite is true, like the vaccines.
Smoke is good for us, right 5:28 ?
That must be why fire the fighters us air mask and air tanks when going into a smoking building.
If we follow your thought process, we should all start smoking and change the laws about under age smoking. If you are that dumb you have to be democrat and hopefully never breed.
At the price of cigarettes I don’t understand how anybody can afford to smoke. I guess if you have an EBT and/or SNAP card and don’t have to spend your money on food, then you can afford it.
