President Donald J. Trump’s Border Czar, Tom Homan, has vowed to press ahead with immigration enforcement operations in New York City following Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani’s victory in Tuesday’s mayoral race. Mamdani, himself a Ugandan immigrant, has pledged to maintain the city’s “sanctuary” status, hindering local law enforcement from cooperating with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
“We will continue operations. Nothing changes,” Homan said Wednesday. Homan, who previously served as acting ICE director, has been a central figure in the administration’s crackdown on illegal immigration, emphasizing a focus on detaining migrants with criminal records.
