Farms, Fentanyl, and Rare Earths: Trump Says China Trade Deal Is Ready Following Meetings With Xi

President Donald J. Trump announced Thursday that the United States and China are on the verge of finalizing a sweeping new trade agreement that he says will reset decades of one-sided economic policy, reclaim lost American industries, and put Beijing on notice for its role in fueling the fentanyl epidemic. The deal—reportedly focused on agriculture, technology, and critical minerals—could mark a decisive turning point in a geopolitical rivalry that has shaped global trade for half a century.

According to sources close to the negotiations, Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping will finalize what both sides are calling a “comprehensive realignment” of trade terms. The President, who famously confronted China with aggressive tariffs during his first term, has maintained that America cannot remain dependent on a communist regime that manipulates markets, floods the world with deadly narcotics, and seeks to dominate advanced technology sectors.

In a statement, Trump emphasized that the new agreement “puts American farmers first, holds China accountable for fentanyl, and protects our access to rare earth minerals that power the modern economy.” The deal is reportedly set to be a one-year term that will be renegotiated yearly.

“We have a deal,” Trump said. “Every year we’ll renegotiate the deal, but I think it’ll go on for a long time.”

According to Fox News:

After the talks, Trump said he and Xi had “an amazing meeting” and that both sides had reached “an outstanding group of decisions” on key economic and security issues. The president said Xi agreed to begin immediate purchases of U.S. soybeans and other farm goods and that China would work “very hard” to block fentanyl from entering the U.S.
