Virginians Cannot Let New Word Salad Queen Abigail Spanberger Be Their Governor

Former Vice President and failed presidential candidate Kamala Harris has been the reigning queen of word salads for several years. She has now been dethroned by Virginia gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger who has turned the art of not answering a basic question into a full-blown science.

As the November 4 election draws near, Virginia voters face a stark choice in the race for governor. Democrat Spanberger, a former CIA officer and congresswoman, remains tight-lipped amid scandals that raise serious questions about her judgment and transparency. Her opponent, Republican Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears, has seized on these issues to warn that Spanberger’s evasions could spell trouble for the commonwealth’s families and communities.

One scandal centers on Jay Jones, the Democratic candidate for attorney general, whose 2022 text messages to a Republican colleague revealed violent fantasies. In those messages, Jones imagined killing then-House Speaker Todd Gilbert with “two bullets to the head” and Gilbert’s children dying in his wife’s arms. Spanberger, when pressed during a recent debate, claimed, “I learned of these text messages the day that they came out, and I denounced them as soon as I learned of them.”

Yet she stopped short of calling for Jones to withdraw, instead pivoting to criticize the timing of the revelations as politically motivated.

This reluctance fits a pattern of avoidance. Spanberger has also dodged direct questions about protecting girls’ spaces in schools from biological males. In the same debate, she sidestepped the issue of boys in girls’ locker rooms and bathrooms, a flashpoint in Virginia where parents have fought for years to safeguard their daughters.

“I’m a mother of three daughters in Virginia public schools, and nothing is more important to me than their safety and their experience in schools,” Spanberger said.
