Multiple people shot when gunfire erupts during homecoming at Alcorn State University in Mississippi

Multiple people were shot in Mississippi when gunfire erupted at Alcorn State University during the school’s homecoming celebration – the third shooting to take place at welcoming back events in the state this weekend.

The university issued an emergency alert shortly after 7 p.m. on Saturday, warning students and staff to take shelter.

‘If you are on campus, seek shelter immediately. Do not leave your secure location until given an all clear by Campus Police,’ the alert read.

According to witnesses, several shots rang out around 6:30 p.m. in the area near Jack’s Grocery Store on the university’s campus.

‘There were so many shots, I lost count,’ one witness, who requested to remain anonymous, told Vicksburg News.

The witness reported that at least two people had been shot, with one victim suffering what were believed to be serious, life-threatening injuries.
