Things Go From Bad to Worse for Virginia Democrat Jay Jones, As New Allegations Emerge

Jay Jones is having a week, and it’s not a good one. As RedState reported, the Democratic Party nominee for Attorney General of Virginia was recently plunged into scandal after texts revealed him fantasizing about murdering Republican Todd Gilbert, who was Speaker of the Virginia House of Delegates at the time. He went on to message that he’d like to see Gilbert’s children killed as well. When the person he was texting objected, he allegedly called her to argue his deranged case further.

In the initial aftermath, Jones was largely undeterred, lashing out at current Virginia AG Jason Miyares while bashing Donald Trump instead of offering a direct apology. With the backlash building, he then put out a second statement in which he showed some remorse while suggesting it was common for people to wish murder on their opponents and their children. Since then, he’s pledged to stay in the race, with major Democrats, including Democrat gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger, rushing to reaffirm their support.

As is so often the case in situations like this, though, Jones reportedly has more skeletons in his closet. According to Virginia House Delegate Carrie Coyner, who was the recipient of the texts and ultimately decided to release them to the public, the embattled Democrat also allegedly told her over the phone that police officers dying would be a good thing because “they would move on, not shooting people, not killing people.” That was in response to Coyner expressing concern over the possible removal of qualified immunity for law enforcement.
