REVEALED: Former Des Moines Iowa Public Schools Superintendent – An Illegal Alien From Guyana – Is a Registered Democrat, Received Mail-in Ballots in Maryland

The former Des Moines, Iowa, Public Schools Superintendent who was illegally living in the US as an ICE fugitive is a registered Democrat and received mail-in ballots in Maryland.

ICE agents last Friday arrested the Superintendent of Des Moines, Iowa, Public Schools – an illegal alien from Guyana with a prior weapons arrest.

According to Fox News, Dr. Ian Andre Roberts was an active ICE fugitive with a deportation order since May 2024. As soon as ICE agents identified themselves, Roberts fled in his car and sped off. He then abandoned his car and fled on foot. Federal agents found him hiding in shrubbery and took him into custody.

Agents found a loaded handgun and a fixed-blade hunting knife in Roberts’ vehicle.

Fox News reported that ICE agents recovered a loaded Glock 19 in Roberts’ vehicle.

When Ian Roberts’ name resurfaced in headlines this year, it wasn’t because of educational excellence or community leadership. It was because another so-called “rising star” of the Baltimore City Public Schools (BCPS) system was exposed for what he truly represented – the rot within America’s Democrat-run urban school districts.

Roberts, who served in BCPS from 2001 to 2010, and as principal of the Friendship Academy of Science and Technology (FAST), built his career on the narrative of “turning around struggling schools.” But behind that polished image were allegations of fraud, grade-changing, and manipulation – the same systemic corruption that has plagued Baltimore’s public schools for decades.

According to FOX45 Baltimore, former teachers have accused Roberts of pressuring staff to change failing grades to passing ones, even for students who barely attended class. In one account, a teacher claimed Roberts told her to “make the data look better” rather than actually address the root causes of failure. The result? Artificial success stories that padded resumes, secured promotions, and fed the narrative that the system was “working.”

In truth, Baltimore’s schools have been collapsing under Democratic control for years. The Maryland Inspector General for Education reported that over 12,000 failing grades were changed to passing grades between 2016 and 2021. While Roberts had already left Baltimore by that point, he helped pioneer a culture where appearances mattered more than achievement – where bureaucrats chased optics, not outcomes.

Even when teachers pushed back, they were often ignored or silenced. The lawsuit filed against Roberts in 2013 alleged retaliation against staff who refused to falsify records. BCPS’ response? They “investigated” themselves and declared the claims “without merit.” That’s the Democrat playbook in Baltimore: deny, deflect, and defend the bureaucracy at all costs.

This pattern isn’t limited to one man – it’s systemic. The same city school system that couldn’t find money for textbooks somehow found millions for administrative salaries. The same Democrat politicians who scream for “accountability” in policing refuse to hold their own school leaders to any standard at all.

Even more alarming are Roberts’ later legal troubles. In September 2025, he was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after a car chase. Officers reportedly found a loaded handgun, $3,000 in cash, and a fixed-blade hunting knife in his vehicle. Roberts, originally from Guyana, had been living under a final deportation order since 2024.

How does a man under deportation orders, with a prior weapons charge, rise to become a school superintendent in Des Moines, Iowa, after years in Baltimore’s education bureaucracy? The answer is simple: political protection. Roberts was part of the “equity-first” class of administrators who said all the right progressive buzzwords. That shielded him from scrutiny – until reality caught up.

Let’s be clear: this is not an isolated case. Baltimore City’s schools have repeatedly been at the center of scandals – from ghost students and empty classrooms to millions in untraceable COVID-relief funds. Yet year after year, Democrat politicians and teachers’ unions insist the answer is more money and less oversight.

Republicans believe differently. We believe in transparency, accountability, and results – not excuses. We believe parents have the right to know what’s happening in their children’s classrooms. And we believe no child should graduate unable to read or do basic math because bureaucrats like Ian Roberts were more concerned with their public image than public education.

Baltimore’s schools don’t need another “equity plan.” They need honesty. They need leadership that values truth over headlines. And they need a government willing to say enough is enough.

Democrats created this mess. It’s time Republicans clean it up.
