As an update to Wicomico County’s award of $2,913,626 from the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) FY24 Home Stretch – Difficult to Serve Properties Grant Program, county officials are working closely with broadband vendors to move this project forward.
Over the coming months, Talkie Communications, Inc., Choptank Fiber, LLC, Comcast Communications, LLC, and Simple Fiber, LLC will begin outreach to residents whose properties meet the program’s requirements. Approximately 381 locations across Wicomico County are expected to benefit from this project.
This critical investment will help close the digital divide by expanding reliable, high-speed internet access to homes in underserved areas. The County is committed to keeping residents informed as progress continues.
Wicomico County thanks the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development Office of Statewide Broadband (OSB) for their partnership in expanding broadband access and looks forward to the positive impact this investment will have on our community.
Residents in the county without service are encouraged to contact Internet Service Providers (ISPs) for information and assistance.

So am I to understand that 381 Locations will benefit to have Broadband? If so, that’s $ 7,647 per location. That does not appear to be a sound investment by taxpayers. There must be a lower cost alternative!

Yes. I would like my $7,647 too please. But you can just give me mine in cash or by check? Who could possibly think this makes any sense at all?
