Media Turns Alabama Social Worker Into the New ‘Maryland Man,’ and DHS Isn’t Having It

Democrats and the mainstream media are constantly on the lookout for examples of alleged ICE overreach involving someone who supposedly was wrongly detained and/or deported, or someone whom they can otherwise try to sympathetically portray, even if they are an illegal immigrant whom DHS has the authority to deport.

They’ve claimed, for instance, that young children who were U.S. citizens were deported out of the country, even though the real story was their mothers were illegal immigrants who were facing deportation and who chose to take them with them.

There was also the story of the media-described “LA mother” who was allegedly “abducted” in a Jack in the Box parking lot in late June by “bounty hunters” and was allegedly taken to a warehouse after refusing to self-deport. Two weeks later, however, the woman, an organizer with the Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment, was seen by investigators unharmed in a shopping center parking lot. She was taken into custody by the feds on grounds that she had made up the whole story.

The latest ICE detainee we’re supposed to believe was a victim of ICE overreach concerns an Alabama woman, 24-year-old Giovanna Hernandez, who was picked up after allegedly driving erratically on a highway.
