The State Department said it will begin layoffs of Foreign Service officers and civil servants. More than 1,300 are being laid off, The Wall Street Journal reports, citing anonymous sources. But ultimately, including previous deferred resignations, the agency is aiming to reduce its 18,000-strong workforce by 15% in order to reduce “bloat.” The move follows a Supreme Court decision earlier in the week allowing the Trump administration to enact mass layoff plans across the federal government.
