Girling the Boy Scouts

  1. I am blessed that my son experienced the Boy scouts and earned the rank of Eagle Scout as a teenager. At 33, he embodies the male virtues taught during his time as a scout in his roles as father, husband, provider and protector. If I had a boy today, I would not encourage participation in the boy scouts and knowing my son as a child, he would want no part of it either. It is sad. My son’s grandfather was an Eagle Scout and he aspired to be like his grandfather. My son has a young son and I believe when his son is old enough to participate in character building activities, my son will look toward sports and other male team building activities for his son. I suspect he will have nothing to do with what we see today. Maybe there will be a few good men who will reverse its direction. I hope so.
