Former state senator says teachers union power bankrupting Maryland, must be challenged

A former Maryland state senator says education spending is bankrupting the state. And now he’s calling on lawmakers in Annapolis to take a stand – specifically, against the teachers union.

Jim Brochin, for 16 years, represented Baltimore County in the Maryland Senate. The Democrat, who left office in 2019, knows how Annapolis works and who holds the power. And right now, he says, the Maryland State Education Association – the state’s largest teachers union – appears to be in charge.

“The power they have over this Democratic legislature is astounding,” Brochin told Project Baltimore.

Brochin believes that power held by MSEA is now bankrupting the state via the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future.

  1. Folks, there are many more things bankrupting maryland besides education. Don’t put the total blame in teachers and Unions. How many of you readers out there want to try to teach a room full of misbehaving undisciplined wild children ?

  2. Maryland is a Democrat state. Remember, there are consequences to elections. Those rapid rail systems being built in Baltimore for billions, will help to move 13K people from one side of Baltimore to the other and are going to help those who are the poor and disadvantaged people to do uh, don’t know how to finish that one. Well, at least it will keep a campaign promise to the unions and that’s important to Democrats. Remember, elections have consequences ! And so what if taxes have to be raised. Remember, we are a Democratic state and if we need more money, we simply raise a few taxes. Also remember that MESA is a union and we have to take care of our teacher’s union. Right?
So all of you who complain on this blog, just sit back and shut up. We are a Democrat State and as long as we are, we can do what we want.
