Baltimore’s Ft. McHenry Tunnel has been closed in part after a tractor-trailer was set ablaze in a crash and fuel leak early Thursday morning.
This comes after The Key Bridge, a major commuter route that carries the Baltimore Beltway I-695 over the Patapsco River at the southern end of the Baltimore Harbor, collapsed in March, diverting its traffic to the Ft. McHenry tunnel.
The Gateway Pundit reported on the bridge’s collapse after the Singaporean Dali container ship took out a support column earlier this year.
Just goes to show how vulnerable our infrastructure is.
I was thinking the same thing, how an even modestly planned attack using common tools at dozens of commerce and transportation chokepoints could disrupt and paralyze us in short order.
Example how fast a crippled infrastructure and collapse…no fault except year so neglect. 40 50 60 70 year old bridges and overpasses have surpassed their life expectancy.
Ocean City Route 50 bridge comes to mind. Decades continue to fly by and kicking the can down the road isn’t an option anymore.
Not to mention the previous push for added route 90 bridges….which was #1 priority. How did that work out Rickie? SHA said zippy money bub. MD has other priorities. Being the 2nd largest city during the summer doesn’t lack the punch anymore….that’s your legacy. Failure to get the money for bridge replacement. Imminent domain the right side of the route 50 bridge coming in, build the new bridge higher and be done with it. Don’t wait…get someone to pester Annapolis. Make deals or concessions.
Stop waiting on the parking garage too. Hell, coulda been working on it for a year now since there were SO many empty days this summer down there. You’ve already taken away so many inlet days…..a parking lot across the street won’t hurt to make a garage.
Stop tabling it…do it and reap the benefits later. Geez.
