Larry Hogan and Angela Alsobrooks sling insults in high-stakes Maryland Senate debate

OWINGS MILLS, Maryland — Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks and former Gov. Larry Hogan traded barbs during a contentious Thursday debate in their closely watched Senate race that could determine the chamber majority.

The head-to-head televised event marked their first and likely only debate before next month’s election.

Alsobrooks sought to rebrand Hogan as a closet extremist who would empower more polarizing Republican figures with Senate control and said a true political maverick would have run as an independent.

“If he wanted to be an independent, he should have run as one,” Alsobrooks said. “He opted to accept Mitch McConnell’s request to come in.

“No matter what former Gov. Hogan says today, he would empower a caucus of people who will take our country backwards,” Alsobrooks added, citing Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Ted Cruz (R-TX).

  1. Hogan is a RINO and if anybody is counting on him to vote Republican if he ends up being the tie breaking vote-do NOT count on it.

  2. Doesn’t matter who you vote for. One is a liberal democrat posing as a republican and the other is a communist. I for one will write in who I voted for in the Republican Primary Robin Flicker. He should have won. Hogan was a horrible governor! No way in hell I am voting for either of the candidates!

  3. Hogan is a weak candidate so I am afraid we will get Alsobrooks. There is no lesser of two evils to pick from. They are both evil and have nothing but bad intent for the working man and for decency for traditional values.

  4. I can’t stand the RINO hogan but will vote for him to keep alsobrooks out. I do believe he is the lesser of the two evils

  5. I’m no Hogan fan, but even if he supports Trumps policies 50% of the time, that’s 50% more than you’ll get out of the tax thief. Also, Trumps Supreme Court nominees have all been strong conservatives. Hogan would absolutely support their nomination while the thief would not. You’ve got to pick your battles, and in a blue state like Maryland, Hogan would be a step in the right direction, even if it’s a really small step. He’d essentially be Mitt Romney. Someone who will likely criticize Trump every chance he gets, but also be an important vote on key conservative legislation that would otherwise be a Nay. If Hogan is going to caucus with the GOP, he will have to vote accordingly most of the time, regardless of how he feels about Trump.
