  1. Mentioning Wicomico County Landfill, I just heard that starting July 1, the tonnage rates to dump at the landfill will increase from $67 per ton to $100 per ton. An increase of nearly 50%. This sudden hike will affect every single resident and small business in Wicomico County.

    1. Yes, however, companies were coming from Kent Island and out of state just to dump their trash because Wicomico County was so cheap. The landfill is filling up at such a fast pace they had no choice but to be compatible with surrounding counties. It’s about time the Council made this decision.

    2. You need to look at things a little differently. Yes, they are increasing fees, but most residents and most if not all business use a trash service. The prices everywhere has gone up. Just look at diesel fuel. It’s at $4.00 dollars plus per gallon. All refuse trucks and equipment run on diesel. Minimum wage at $15.00. So why can’t the landfill raise their prices.
The average citizen is not going to the landfill with tons of garbage.
When I moved my wife from Charlotte N.C. up here. The total weight of the furniture moved was just over 4000 pounds. ( 2 tons ) ( 2 bedroom apartment ).

    3. With all the sky high prices ( gas, food, insurance, medication, autos ) this is what you want to complain about ? Here’s a small break down for you as a resident of Wicomico County.
Personal use land fill permit – $60.00 a year or $1.15 a week. With that you can use the landfill and all the transfer stations all through out the county as many times you want.
With out a personal use land fill permit – it is $10.00 for up to 280 pounds. ( weigh in / weigh out ) Additional per pound after that. ( Can’t use the transfer stations ). Most towns in the county, you pay for trash removal through prosperity taxes. ( water and sewage included ) The town contracts through a waste disposal company for trash removal for the residents of that town. ( within city or town limits.)
Rural residents can hire a waste disposal company to pick up your trash on a weekly basis. Cost between $500.00 – $600.00 dollars a year ( $40 – $50 dollars a month ) depending on if you want one or two trash cans.
      buying one soda a week = $143.00 a year
      ordering 6 piece hot wings at $11.00 an order = $572.00 ( once a week )
      a $5.00 burger meal ( once a week ) = $260.00
      10 gallons of gas, once a week at $3.75 per gallon = $1950.00 ( per year )
Trash fees / dump fees don’t seem that expensive now…. do they ????
