ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Wes Moore released the following statement on the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge:
My office is in close communication with U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott, Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski, and the Baltimore Fire Department as emergency personnel are on the scene following the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge.
I have declared a State of Emergency here in Maryland and we are working with an interagency team to quickly deploy federal resources from the Biden Administration.
We are thankful for the brave men and women who are carrying out efforts to rescue those involved and pray for everyone’s safety.
We will remain in close contact with federal, state, and local entities that are carrying out rescue efforts as we continue to assess and respond to this tragedy.
Remember this article everyone, when they need and want and raise more tax money from you. They always want more and they keep doing less, and now people are getting hurt by it even more. The inspectors should be held liable at the very least. A bridge doesn’t just fall, it always shows signs before it happens, always.
Yeah it’s too bad the inspector didn’t stop the big giant ship thing that hit it. Definitely their fault.
Jack, the bridge didn’t just fall. A tanker ship crashed into it! Get your facts in order.
You’re losing it jackson
Cargo Ship. Not a tanker. Two different type of vessels. Get your facts straight.
A 2018 report for the World Association for Waterborne Transport Infrastructure catalogued 35 major bridge collapses that were caused by boat strikes between 1960 and 2015, killing a total of 342 people. Eighteen of those incidents happened in the United States.
Do a google search there Jackie boy……
So in your mind, if a bulldozer hits your house and the house collapses, there must have been something wrong with the house….always….
The Dali is 95,000 tons empty and about 165000 tons full. Your explanation Jack is wrong regarding inspectors. The culprit is physics. Dolphin barriers would have failed to stop anything that size, and no bridge would survive an impact from anything that large.
Statements and photo ops are good but… where were the tug boats when this happened??
This was answered today that the tugs helped the ship out of its slip then bugged out (early) before the bridge became an issue.
Why aren’t China buddies not paying for repairs in stead of taxpayers?
Are the Chinese “captains” licensed to operate vessel in these waters?
Not a single person on that ship was Chinese. Why do you make stuff up like this? Get a life.
Heres a thought. How long did it take this bridge to be built? Does the robust America that made things exist anymore? We used to have coast to coast trains- now it costs billions just to build a small train in California.
Will this bridge ever be rebuilt?
Yes it will be re-built and In record time. The local Unions in Baltimore will come together and show people what good Union workers can do.
LOL. Yeah, overpaid anticompetitive “good Union workers” to the rescue. Sure. The only thing they can get done is receive their inflated paychecks and cause prices to go up. The amounts they get paid to turn screws on the assembly line is ridiculous.
Those Tugs BELONGED there when the ship hit the bridge PERIOD.
this bridge will cost in the billions to replace along with years
That ship should have insurance to cover disasters such as this
My estimate is within four years a new bridge will be completed and in use. That seems like a long time but much preparation and planning has to be done before new construction can begin. First step is removal of the collapsed bridge which will take months.
