State lawmakers are now fast-tracking legislation that would pave the way for long awaited Pimlico racetrack renovations.
The bill introduced this week proposes plans to rebuild the historic Pimlico Race Course and construct a new training facility using $400 million in state bonds. While construction is underway, the Preakness Stakes would temporality move to Laurel Park in 2026, then return to Pimlico the following year.
The Stronach Group, which has owned Pimlico for over 20 years, also entered a “binding commitment” to transfer ownership of the track to state officials.
In a statement, Governor Wes Moore said the handoff would, “ensure this important industry continues to create jobs and drive economic growth for years to come.”
This should be a loan only – taxpayers should NOT be on the hook for this.
We have elected a spending Mooron! Thanks Larry Hogan for endorsing this Turd!

So let me get this straight, the state of Maryland is going to give the Stronach Group 400 million dollars to rebuild Pimlico . In return the Stronach Group is going to transfer ownership to the state of Maryland. So that means that the state of Maryland just BOUGHT Pimlico for 400 million dollars. Wasn’t it just reported a couple of weeks ago that the state is going to have a budget deficient of about 300 million in the next couple of years if they don’t raise taxes or start to tax things that have never been taxed before to try to raise money ?
Thae state if Maryland doesn’t need to buy a horse race track
