The Wicomico County Board of Education decided to separate the current Selection and Review of Textbooks, Instructional Materials, and Media Materials Policy into two separate policies, applying even more conditions that pave the way for sexually-explicit materials and a fortified system to make sure these materials stay in place. To fully understand their motives, it requires you to read between the lines.

Below is the new proposed “Media Resource Selection & Review Policy.” The highlighted sections are what you need to pay attention to. You can see how materials are selected, who has the full authority, the ambiguous criteria, and a backdoor provision for “additional criteria” to allow the superintendent or his designee to add secret criteria as they see fit.

With all of this criteria, the elected board still refuses to define “appropriate” even though they ironically use the word in section III.2.c.
On page two, Section III.B.2. below, the statement is deceptive: “If having access to the book removed for their child does not satisfy the parent guardian.” It’s deceptive because the child has access to any book in the media center (no matter what). The WCBOE wants to imply that they are accommodatingly blocking access at the request of a parent, but the objectionable book is always accessible as it remains on the shelf. They are deceptively referring to a “flagged book” in their procedure so that a child cannot check out a book at the parent’s request. There’s nothing in place to prevents a child from reading obscene material at school, which is willfully negligent.
They’re always trying to pull the wool over the citizens even with policy. The WCBOE is indoctrinating to create a generation of degenerates. Their new slogan is “Learning Today, Leading Tomorrow.” That’s terrifying knowing what they’re learning today at the rate we’re heading toward tomorrow.
These freaks need to be held accountable not by the court but by the people in their faces . It’s time to make them feel some pain
I wonder what would happen if a teacher starts into this ‘teaching’ and the whole class walks out. Now imagine if every time any teacher broaches the subject, the kids walk out. The. Whole. Class.
Every class. Now the office is jammed with kids claiming their religion. I’d bet there will be more than a few that do the same for fun just to see what happens. You know it will go viral as at least one kid will film it.
Suspend them all?
My kids know that if this comes up they are to politely raise their hand and explain that they have to go to the office, as this is against the religious beliefs. They are then to leave. They are to be polite and respectful at all times, but also know right from wrong.
I guess we’ll see what happens.
There is policy to challenge books in the media centers that people feel is unacceptable for youths of certain ages. Criteria is laid out in Miller’s v California (1973). This is simply too much for some groups to comprehend. So sad.
