Baltimore career criminal gets life in prison for stray-bullet killing of 13-year-old girl

A Baltimore man was sentenced to life in prison this week for the stray-bullet shooting of a 13-year-old girl that took place just two weeks after he got out of federal custody.

Tavon Battle, 36, was convicted of first-degree murder in November in connection with the fatal shooting of Kelsey Washington on Nov. 7, 2022, CBS News reported.

The teen was shot in the head when Battle opened fire on a crowded corner in East Baltimore, though officials previously noted that the young girl was not his intended target, the Baltimore Sun explained.

Battle – who was released on probation from federal custody related to an armed robbery less than two weeks before the incident – fired at a car and was  “probably intending to shoot who was in the vehicle,” but instead hit Washington, then-Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said in 2022.

Battle was also convicted of attempted first-degree murder in connection with the injury of another bystander who was shot but survived his injuries, according to the Baltimore Sun.

  1. This is a perfect reason for LAW ABIDING CITIZENS to arm and carry

SHAWTY was just released from prison, and had a firearm.

Once the LAZY CLASS learn they will get resistance from WE THE PEOPLE….
Society will start to return to normal

    1. And you know he must have obtained that fire arm legally. Filled out all the required paperwork
Checked the box stating he was a convicted felon. Waited the 30 days for his application to be approved. Went to the local fire arms dealer and purchased the hand gun. Waited the seven day cooling off period. OR……… He got out, hit up one of his home boys for a piece. ….
WE THE PEOPLE….. LOCK AND LOAD AND READY TO GO.

  2. Unless it is life without parole, they are eligible for parole in only 15 years (not that they will necessarily get paroled)-they are eligible though! There is ZERO truth in sentencing. The credits they get while incarcerated are a joke, and a big middle finger to the victims of these criminals. Get rid of the Justice Reinvestment Act passed several years ago-it is such a piece of garbage legislation-people would be shocked if they knew how it coddles criminals!

  3. but he didn’t MEAN to do it! check back in 10 years 🙁 “On Tuesday, Battle was sentenced to life in prison plus 35 years, with no possibility of parole for 10 years.”
