Maryland State Police – Berlin Barrack Launches Enhanced DUI Enforcement Initiative toPromote Road Safety

Berlin, MD – The Maryland State Police Berlin Barrack is intensifying its efforts to combat driving
under the influence of alcohol and drugs through an upcoming targeted enforcement initiative. This
campaign, set to commence on February 3rd at 10 PM and extend until February 4th at 1 AM, is part
of the Barrack’s unwavering commitment to road safety and the elimination of impaired driving
collisions.
The initiative will see additional troopers deployed on the roads in Worcester County, specifically
focusing on DUI and impaired driving enforcement. These types of enforcement actions are in
response to alarming statistics from Zero Deaths Maryland, which has reported a continued increase in
total crashes involving alcohol or drugs since 2018. In 2022 alone, there were 135 fatal crashes
involving impaired drivers on Maryland’s roads. These numbers underscore the critical need for
focused efforts to deter and apprehend impaired drivers.
“The safety of our community is our top priority,” stated Lt. Earl Starner, Commander of the Berlin
Barrack. “With this initiative, we aim to significantly reduce DUI incidents, thereby ensuring safer
travel for everyone on our roads.”
The Maryland State Police Berlin Barrack is dedicated to its mission of removing impaired drivers
from the road. This enhanced enforcement effort is a part of a broader strategy to promote responsible
driving and prevent tragedies associated with impaired driving.
We encourage the community to support this initiative by making responsible choices and reminding
others to do the same. Together, we can work towards achieving zero deaths due to impaired driving
on Maryland roads.
