Walmart store manager pay can reach $400,000 with new grants

Managers can now receive as much as 200% of their base salary in bonuses if targets are met.

Walmart Inc. is offering annual stock grants as a new incentive for store managers, bringing potential pay for the most successful ones to more than $400,000.

Starting in April, all US store managers will receive as much as $20,000 in Walmart stock every year, as the world’s largest retailer seeks to attract and retain staff. The amount of stock grants will vary by store format, with those overseeing smaller outlets eligible for less, the company said Monday.

Stock grants are the company’s latest effort to boost compensation for managers.

The new starting annual base salary for U.S. store managers will range from $90,000 to $170,000. Previously, the range was from $65,000 to $170,000, according to Cedric Clark, executive vice president of store operations at Walmart’s U.S. division.

  1. “Meanwhile, Walmart lowered its starting pay for some new hires as part of a revamped wage structure, a move that affected online-order pickers, shelf stockers and other employees.”
shite company! sells nothing but chinese junk!

  2. Alrighty then, cheers for all you Union haters out there !!!! If only you people would open your eyes and mind to see and understand the good that Unions do for the average worker. Why should all that extra money go to managers? It wouldn’t if they were Unionized. But that’s ok, stay brain washed and let the government do your negotiating for minimum wage with no benefits and stay in poverty.

    1. No thanks, “Cracker”! 40 years ago, I started working at a national grocery chain store (union) in Salisbury. I was part-time, no benefits and paid not much more than minimum wage ($3.35). My work ethic was noticed by management. When I asked them how I could move up and get more hours/pay raise, their reply was “Wait for someone to die?!” Several months later, a regional grocery chain store (non-union) was advertising for help for their soon to be opened store in Ocean City. I was hired at full-time ($5.10), guaranteed 44 hours/week, time and a half on Sundays, 5 paid holidays and profit sharing. I worked for them for over 25 years! By the way, that “national grocery chain” shuttered their doors in 1987 and their best employees came to work with me. Signed, “NOT UNION HATER, JUST NOT UNION FAN”.

      1. That’s a great story and I congratulate you on your success 2:02, however there are not enough new stores opening or enough workers dying to offer opportunities for hundreds of thousands of workers that Unions offer prosperity to.

  3. Wal Mart Rips off Customers with Prices rising all the time !!!! They should be Cheaper than ALL other stores !!!!

Managers better OPEN the Damn Registers or should be FIRED !!!!!! Quit stopping customers leaving store !!

  4. They should provide a Stool for workers to sit on at the registers !!!! They should give you 20% off for self serve !!!

  5. I didn’t think the N. Salisbury Walmart had a manager! What do they do???? They certainly don’t manage the store or employees. Long lines trying to push you to use self check-out. I refuse to use self check-out! The ignorant workers who are jamming up the aisles with those big carts getting groceries for people who, in many cases, are too damn lazy to get their own. If it’s truly needed, that’s fine. The workers refuse to move over and give you room to get by them with your own cart. The cashiers are so unfriendly and ungracious. If it wasn’t for us annoying customers bothering them, they wouldn’t have a job. The bathrooms are filthy too!

  6. unions? lmao, they would do for walmart what they did for schools? airlines? government workers? yeah sure idiot thats the answer!
