In a recent TikTok video, Dr. Nick Zyrowski, a health and wellness expert, has outlined three factors that can wreak havoc on your heart health. “Heart disease is the number one killer worldwide, and there’s three things that lead to it,” he says. 1. Sedentary Lifestyle
Dr. Zyrowski underscores the detrimental impact of a sedentary lifestyle on heart health. “First is going to be a lack of exercise–a sedentary lifestyle,” he says. “Exercise is so necessary for your genetics that if you’re not doing it, it’s considered a deficiency.”
Like he says, physical inactivity is a key contributor to the development of cardiovascular issues, and its detrimental effects on the heart are well-documented. When individuals engage in insufficient physical activity, the heart muscle weakens over time, leading to decreased efficiency in pumping blood throughout the body. This weakened state can result in the accumulation of fatty deposits in the arteries, raising the risk of atherosclerosis—a condition where arteries become narrowed and hardened. Additionally, a sedentary lifestyle is often linked to other risk factors for heart disease, such as obesity and high blood pressure.
Regular exercise, on the other hand, enhances cardiovascular function, strengthens the heart, and helps maintain healthy blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Luckily, there are plenty of great types of exercise to choose from to keep your heart in great shape.
