Elite universities have collected $45 billion in taxpayer funds since 2018, watchdog says

A report released Wednesday by watchdog organization Open The Books found the U.S.’s ten most elite universities have raked in a whopping $45 billion in taxpayer dollars to fund research since 2018.

Campuses examined included each of the eight Ivy League schools along with Northwestern University and Stanford University. Open The Books founder and CEO Adam Andrzejewski told The National Desk (TND) these schools earned staggering amounts of money off U.S. taxpayers.

“The last time we looked at this, the eight schools of the Ivy League collected more federal payments than what 16 state governments collected in the same period,” Andrzejewski said. “It’s an extraordinary amount of money.”

Of these schools, only Dartmouth College brought in less than $1 billion, and Stanford University took home the most with $7 billion. Each of these schools made more money through tax dollars than they did undergraduate admission funds, effectively making them government agencies, Andrzejewski said.

“These elite universities are more federal contractors than they are educators,” he said. “Those ten wealthy elite colleges received $33 billion of federal contracts and grants between the years 2018 and 2022. That number exceeded their receipt of undergraduate student tuition.”

  1. Democrats make certain the universities and colleges receive these federal dollars because they need know they will have a job there when they lose an election. The last two mayors of NYC and Chicago who lost their elections are making $250,000 each at Harvard..
