Divorce lawyer reveals why getting married in your 20s is a big mistake

Tip #1: Say I don’t.

Boston lawyer Tyler Summers, who specializes in divorce and prenups, revealed why young adults shouldn’t get married in their 20s.

In a 26-second TikTok clip with 3.5 million views, he explains why young adults should wait until they’re at least 30 to tie the knot.

“In your 20s, you’re still finding yourself,” Summers mentioned in the clip posted July 7. “You have no idea what you want long-term.”

Summers believes that people in their 30s have a better understanding of themselves and have financial stability, though.

“People that get married for the first time when they’re 30 they’re further longer in career,” he added. “Perhaps they have some money, they’re more mature. They are ready to have a long-term committed relationship.”

  1. If people in their 20s (and everybody else for that matter) would follow the Bible then getting married in their 20s would be great, as God intended it. It’s a failure to follow the word of the Lord that causes the troubles, not getting married too young.

  2. Mid 1990s, arrival of the internet…not an age or scripture…..advant of lack of responsibilities behind anonymity.

32 years of data now available to state the mid 90s was the birth of societies failure.

  3. got married in my 20s – been married – been up and downs and struggles beyond belief. PROBLEM is – its acceptable to get divorced, its EASY to get divorced – LAWYERS are the problem 99% of the time with this country. Not enough Bible in our life is the other – God is good. Lawyers are Evil.

  4. What the lawyer actually meant, and the reason for their ‘advice’, is if marriage is postponed then when the inevitable happens the parties will have more assets and can handle more billable hours from their divorce counsel. And they’ll be prepared to slug it out to keep their stake, again to the benefit of their chosen legal beagle.

Pro tip: Consider not choosing lawyer with ‘Heads I win; tails you lose’ on their business card and stationery.
