Pa. governor is making registering to vote when drivers get or renew a license automatic

Nearly two dozen states and Washington, D.C., already have varying models of what is called “automatic voter registration,” according to the National Conference of State Legislatures

As GOP presidential candidates court voters in early voting states, Lauren Mayk talks to Republican voters in battleground Pennsylvania as well as political science professor Christopher Borick, the director of Muhlenberg College’s Institute of Public Opinion.

Gov. Josh Shapiro’s administration said starting Tuesday it is making it easier for someone to register to vote when they are getting or renewing a driver’s license in Pennsylvania.

Under the new format, prompts on the computer screens in driver’s license centers will take the user to a template to register to vote. That leaves it up to them to choose not to register. Previously, prompts on the computer screen first asked the user whether they wanted to register to vote.

  1. That’s great. Only question I have would be how they maintain screening so as to register only those who are actually legally qualified to vote.

  2. Then all the illegals will be registered to vote! Maryland has been doing that for many years, only not making it automatic, but giving them that option to register. And they did eventho illegal.
